Hotel Hvala and Topli val restaurant history

1976 - Cvetka and Vladimir Hvala return from Portorož to their native land and start out for themselves.
1977 - Soon after, they transfer a piece of the Mediterranean to Kobarid. They rename their inn "Pri Danici" to Topli Val. For the first time in the region, seafood dishes are served up. Mediterranean cuisine on the doorstep of the Julian Alps proves itself to be innovative, attractive and well received.
1980 - Reports about Topli Val travel across the border into Italy and Austria.
1984 - Due to increased demand, we renovate, enlarge and alter the restaurant spaces.
1997 - Begin working in the hotel industry. The first stage is in a renovated hotel that we call Hotel Hvala, where we also relocate and continue the Topli Val restaurant tradition.
1998 - An earthquake in the Soča Valley causes very hard times.
2000 - The beautiful Soča River valley finally places Kobarid on the touristic and culinary maps of Slovenia and Europe.
2003 - The next generation - "the young ones" - take over management of the hotel and restaurant. Aleš, Vesna, Tanja and Gorazd continue the tradition handed down by Cvetka and Vladimir.
2004 - Topli Val establishes itself as a restaurant in the Kobarid culinary circle.
2005 - Lonely Planet rates Hotel Hvala and Topli Val restaurant as "Recommended" in their travel guide.
2007 - The editors of Kompass Gourmett magazine include Topli Val among their list of favourite restaurants.
